Jennifer Barclay Books

(and more)

Editor

‘As a first-time author, I couldn’t have asked for a better developmental editor. I learnt so much. Jennifer is an excellent communicator, is timely with her work, and a great teacher. She prompted me throughout the review to go deeper, explain more, and show the reader. Her suggestions were said with a supportive and nurturing tone.’
– Katherine Leamy

I began my book career at a literary agency in Toronto in the 1990s, and a decade later became commissioning editor then editorial director at Summersdale Publishers, during which time the company was shortlisted for the IPG and BBIA independent publisher of the year awards. On moving to a Greek island, I went freelance and now offer structural and developmental editing, mentoring and assessments. I’ve helped clients polish a manuscript or proposal before they look for a publisher (e.g. Tharik Hussain’s Minarets in the Mountains, Always Pack a Candle by Marion Crook, Doug Gold’s The Note Through the Wire) or self-publish. I also edit books for publishers (e.g. the English translation of Auguste Corteau’s The Book of Katerina, EBRD Literature Award finalist).

‘Not only does she have a keen eye for the usual grammar and punctuation, but she is also full of suggestions and ideas to help bring the best out of any writer. I found her a genius at cutting down my word count so that I barely noticed it had been done and great at motivating me from start to finish. I can’t recommend her enough.’
– Phoebe Smith
