Ishbel Holmes

Ishbel Holmes is a Scottish-Iranian cyclist who had been a velodrome sprinter for the Iranian Women’s Team and road raced extensively in the UK when she set out to cycle the world in 2014. In Turkey she encountered an abused street dog, which she named Lucy, and this helped her to confront her own past as a homeless teenager.

Ishbel is devoted to the social, environmental and health benefits of cycling and an avid wearer of socks with sandals. She regularly gives talks and has been featured by media worldwide.

ME, MY BIKE AND A STREET DOG CALLED LUCY (Bradt UK, Velo US as SAVING LUCY, audio Tantor) was published in 2018 in English and translation editions followed in Norwegian, Spanish and Chinese. It was shortlisted for the Stanfords/Lonely Planet Adventure Travel Book Award
