Iain Campbell is from Scotland and studied history at Oxford University where he specialised in medieval religious history. He lives in Edinburgh.
He followed the Indus River from its mouth in the mud flats of Karachi through the Karakorum, Kashmir and the Himalayas to its source on the Tibetan plateau. His four-month journey took him to a Sufi shrine attended by crocodiles, a festival for the tiny Hindu minority community on a river island, and the temple of a three year old Buddhist lama.
